Corporate social responsibility in the context of expropriation and exception in the northern region of the state of Rio de Janeiro

the case of Porto do Açu

Abstract

Built in the 5th District of São João da Barra, Porto do Açu controls around 40% of that municipality's territory, affecting ways of life at the same time that companies implement social actions. Based on the hypothesis that in the North of Rio de Janeiro there is a process of expropriation, which combined with the state of exception makes the ports possible by guaranteeing regional development through oil extraction, the question is: what are social responsibility actions (CSR) for in this context? In order to identify the role of CSR in the 5th District, methodologically a case study was carried out, with bibliographical, documental and field research. In the view of those affected, CSR actions produce a positive internal and external image of the enterprise, while the negative effects on their ways of life remain, indicating that there is no direct relationship between these actions and the main impacts generated by the enterprise.
